TII Computer Deals at Dell Home Systems 120x240

The Dell Axim X3 or the latest X5 is one tool that I must take when I head out on an adventure.  Besides just opening the box and charging the battery is all you really need to get started.  The X3 and X5 both ship with the operating system word, excel, a picture viewer, media player 10, and more already installed.  The software CD includes some Games, Microsoft Reader, Access, PowerPoint viewer, and some try out programs.

Where the Pocket PC's pull away from the Palm's (ex Palm owner) is with the multi media files.  I can watch ripped DVD's, play my MP3 music files, and best of all view RAW Nikon files all from my PDA.  (Must own pocket loupe software to view) When I purchase my next camera Nikon D2X I will be able to view my files beamed by WiFi into my Dell for me or others to view.

I own the X50v it has the 624MHz processor with 64 MB RAM and 128 ROM built in.  It also includes both WiFi and Bluetooth so it can access most free wireless services and devices (transfer contact info to Bluetooth phones).  What was more important to me and sold me on this model is that it offers both CF and SD memory slots I can pop the cards from my cameras into my Dell and view my images on a VGA screen.  I paid the extra money for the VGA screen, for images is great but unless you have micro vision reading text at 640X480 on such a small screen will make you blind.  So if you think that viewing websites will be easier you will be surprised and go back to the lower res screen.

I still take my laptop with me even on my wilderness treks but my PDA is where my mapping programs live.  I use the Maptech Pocket Navigator mapping program I can load both topo and marine charts onto my SD card and pop in my CF GPS and fine where I am. (I have found many times that a map and compass sometime will not help if you have nothing to reference to.) Another nice thing about keeping my mapping software on my PDA is that I will not have to boot up my laptop every time I want to look at the map. My Dell X50v will power up and be where I last viewed the screen.

When in camp I can use Microsoft Reader and can pick from a selection of E-Books that I always have loaded.  If I had to carry and pack 25 books I would not have room for supplies.  I also use the word program to enter a journal of my adventure so there is no need to carry a notebook.
